For the final version I used the same pattern pieces. I went shopping at Cares Stoffen for fabric that matched my dress. The blush fabric that you see in the middle of the dress is a part of my wedding dress. My dress had to be shortened so some fabric was left over and I could take it with me. Cares Stoffen had all the fabric that I wanted, cotton for the top and bottom and some tulle for the skirt underneath and the sides of the dress.I absolutely love the dress. The fit of the azure party dress is spot on and I really like the different pattern pieces. For the first dress I used the same fabric for almost all top pattern pieces, except for the center piece. For the final dress for the wedding I used three different types of fabric.
Did you see the perfect continuing print in the back? It was my first time trying a continuing print and I am very satisfied with the result. For the side panel pieces I used the same fabric as the bottom of the dress and added ruffled tule on top of that.
In addition to the dress I also made a cardigan and a top for underneath the dress. All items that she wore during our wedding days were made by me (even her underwear ;). It took me a while to find a cardigan that I liked. Every time I was searching the Blissful Blazer* (2Y-14) by Love Notions popped up. I loved the look of the cardigan, however, as you may have read in a previous post, I do not like ruffles. I decided to buy the pattern and just leave out the ruffles.
I had to make some adjustments to the blazer so that it would be according to my liking. I added facing to the front sides of the blazer instead of a full lining and I omitted the ruffles. I did not add length because I expected that the length would be perfect for over a dress. I really love the result, it is perfect for over a dress, especially with the shape of the blazer. I especially love the collar of the blazer, that is what makes the Blissful Blazer unique.
For the tulle skirt underneath, I made a separate skirt so she can also wear the dress without the tulle skirt, I used the technique explained by Me-Time by Seija. I did not want the tulle to irritate my daughter when she would wear the skirt. Seija explains how you can sew the elastic band to the tulle with a nice finish (without itching fabric at the inside of the elastic band). You might have noticed the amazing photos of the dresses that were made during our wedding days. We had great photographers during our wedding days. Hermine and Ramon from Mon et Mine made pictures during our day in the Netherlands. We absolutely love their photos!
